Salutations all! Anyone want to quibble over the proper date for this holiday?
History celebrates the battlefields whereon we meet our death, but scorns to speak of the plowed fields whereby we thrive; it knows the names of kings’ bastards but cannot tell us the origin of wheat. This is the way of human folly. --- Henry Fabre

Happy New Year all around! All the best to you all, and may the new year be better (or, if you prefer, even better) than the old one!

Aside from the fact that each time you awaken it is both a new day and a new year, The Chinese might have a go but I've always felt that the Solstice would have been a better choice.

Oh and Happy New Year.

Our celebration of the new year is based on a calendar that is in such standard usage I wouldn't dare to quibble, regardless of the origin or arguable accuracy of said calendar.

Naw. I have no intention of quibbling about the date. I'm not Eastern Orthodox. I'd rather quibble the knot on that towel she's wearing.

I for one would like to quibble about how to say 2010
Is it two 0h ten
twenty ten
two thousand ten
I know in the future two thousand and ten will be used in textbooks documentaries and the like
but who care about that two thousand ten is hard to say and hard to type
twenty ten is probably what we'll use for now

"Twenty-ten" is much cooler, pronunciation-wise.

Waiting on company to arrive here for a little New Years dinner. Lasagna with two meats, three cheeses, sauce simmered for four hours, baked for one. No vegans this time, so the extra plate of goat cheese lasagna not needed. Served with wine, salad, and good conversation.

I think I met Adam Sessler at a bar last night, He was the lead singer of a cover band called White squirrel.

Oh, that's a towel then, is it?

If the beginning of the year is up for grabs again I say April first. As for how to pronounce it, I go with "Uhh...what year?"
