If anything, it's the other way around: it implies that golems are a form of familiar. And it's probably not too much of a stretch to compare a privately owned autonomous golem, to a humanoid familiar (ignoring the matter of sentience within the subject). Close enough, at least, for those puritans to use it to their advantage.
