Glad to hear that it wasn't as serious as it could have been. Wish him my best.

Hooray! My "good vibrations" worked! ;)

But seriously, I'm glad you're both feeling better! Prolonged illness is bad! Yuckie even.

I have it on good authority that requiring regular dialysis is a sucky way to live. Still an order of magnitude better than the consequences of forgoing it, but each session is still debilitating. Whatever it takes to avoid the need, if possible, is generally worth doing.

Registered here just to be able to comment on this post, though I've read Poe's works since the days of Exploitation Now.

As a nurse who works on a unit that sees a lot of renal patients, the treatment for acute renal failure is to (1) remove the cause, (2) rest, (3) fluids. If the cause is an infection, removing it involves antibiotics. (Other possible causes include certain medications, in which case it is necessary to stop taking them.) In the hospital, fluids are usually provided intravenously. If Poe is able to take them orally at home, great!

Acute renal failure isn't as big a deal as it sounds and is usually reversible. However, if this starts happening on a regular basis, then it can turn into chronic renal failure. It's chronic renal failure that can eventually require dialysis.

Good luck, and I hope he makes a speedy recovery!

Just heard about this. Scary! Glad everyone is going to be okay. With minor amounts of arm twisting that is.
