You say that as if it was a bad thing. Everything, from trhe Final Fantasy clothing to the Kefka What-If stories are perfectly fine starting points for a modern fantasy story. I don't think it was undignified then nor I think it was something that needed to be grown out of. And I insist that while as a whole ES means to be Sarine's story, Meji remains the most interesting character plot wise.
