What they hear is the sound of the oncoming freight train from down-tunnel. Whether that is a faith-destroying encounter with the paedagogusi or a body-destroying encounter with something more lethal remains to be seen...

If I remember correctly, when Sarine reported her findings to the Elven Council, they already knew about the faith-destroying nature of the Paedagogusi.

I'd expect they briefed their military commanders about it. The rank and file might not know, but their leaders should.

Otherwise, we add another item on the long list of "Elves and their Stupid Military Decisions".
