Replacement bodies... creepy. But then I remembered you can create bodies without souls in Errant Story.

I can fully understand why a developing race would want to know they weren't created as prototypes for vessels... much less have their bodies snatched (though of course that wouldn't be the case... I think, that just springs to mind because it's unecessary scary, but doesn't actually make any sense).

Anyway, that sounds like a very plausible theory. Best to my hearing yet, I suppose you can add those two cents to the pile.
