They made an hour-long movie about it. The host was amazed, as I recall, and felt the guy was deserving of the money for being able to do it.

Yes, it was Eubanks for "In the Ass" not Woolery. At that time I think he was still doing "Love Connection."
As for the Press Your Luck scandal, I saw the special that showed just how he did it, why it worked & how it brought him nothing but disaster afterwards until his death. He was just the poor Al Bundy in real life who tried to get rich quick and when that one in a thousand attempt worked he thought he had his "system," not unlike so many gamblers who have their "system" to win at craps, Blackjack, Poker & the like.
