Port Lorrel- Puppet Masters

As we play, occasionally we'll close a thread and open a new one to keep the size of threads (and relative complexity) down to a dull roar. Here's where we store the closed posts from the history of Errant Road.

"Don't know 'bout an ambush." She continued. "But... we got any other leads? Maybe if it's an ambush, and Eli, or the Priest-man is there we could ambush the ambush and find out where Aleron is? Or maybe they did make a mistake and Aleron's there... could be a chance to end this."

I nod. Although... if we know where one of them is going to be, and alone or nearly so, then why aren't we attacking that weak link? Tamina might be a bit too cautious. Which I understand, as she is trying to keep us all alive.

Except that isn't how war works. You have to take risks. You have to risk losing people. If you don't, the enemy will kill you slowly.

Maybe I'll just do this part on my own. Once I get the details from Tamina, it wouldn't take much to get where I need to get and strike quickly. And, if I screw up and don't get the kill, then instead of sticking around, I can retreat to saftey.

Of course, this relies on me being able to get that info without Tamina suspecting anything. And it depends on what Tamina decides to do with the info. If she sends me in on a different mission, well... I'll have to make it up as we go.

OOC Sorry I've been erratic lately. The stag party yesterday and the hangover today kind of ate up my time. I'll try to get something lengthy and scene-setting in the next few days./OOC

As the sun began to set on another day in the port, a carriage was rolling down the streets towards the Waterfront district. The lone guardsman shifted uncomfortably on the wooden bench of the seat, tightening his grip on the reins as muffled conversation drifted from the interior of the transport.

"I'm been thinking maybe I'm cut out for public life after all." Eli murmured, staring out the window at the sun touching the water beyond the docks. He was sat opposite the young Priest some five minutes after their rendevous and the half-elf's explanation of Aleron's desire for the Priest to join them that night. "It's absorbing to watch the direction of a city being decided, history being decided, and know you've had a hand in it. I think that's why the old man asked you along tonight, ha! The same reason he's going along tonight; a glimpse at the larger picture we've helped to create."

True enough, the group meeting at Drewmount Shipping in a couple of hours were fewer in number than the mob at Logan's address, but they represented a much greater one. Eli stifled a smile: his leader's orders to indoctrinate the returning councilmen for the final push to get Logan into office might even prove unnecessary if the arms display got them suitably motivated to officially commit to the businessman's agenda. It made no odds to the Black Guard Captain either way, the petty-minded, money-hoarding, paranoid human's could embrace their legitmate front and start doing things their way or be dragged kicking and screaming to it. By the end of the night it would be done.

In the meantime, there was little to do but allay any of Tim's concerns and keep an eye out for trouble.

OOC Arriving on my next one. Just leaving a gap in case Tim needs any info./OOC

"No doubt," said Tim, though he suspected that whatever-was-going-on was partly a show for the Church, to impress upon them that the Black Guard were the new power in this country, and ought to be recognized as such. At least if it was a serious occasion there wouldn't be any "tattooed lewd" in attendance. "So, once more, just which piece of events is it we're seeing tonight?"

Officially, he had to keep himself distant from Aleron's group, but physically he would keep close to Eli, in case this Mystery Act drew unwelcome attention and the half-elf needed shielding. Little did he know that the Eisenfaust had lighted on him as the key to finding Aleron or that cunning eyes old in crime had observed his every move.

"Our recruiting has paid off." Eli replied, smiling to himself. "We obtained the services of a gunsmith who put together some beauties for our guardsmen, fucking bunkerbusters, the things are. And we're showing them to some important and, more importantly, wealthy men and women to demonstrate the available benefits of investing with Logan Enterprizes."

He opened the window, craned out, and saw their approaching destination.

"You see? There?" He pointed at a sturdy wooden building the size of a warehouse some fifty feet from the dock's edge. The carriage had rolled into a more sparsely constructed part of town. The majority of the buildings were factories and refineries, with smoke drifting thickly from their hefty chimneys even as the day was wearing on. The Priest and the Captain observed lanterns being hung in a wide square before the building owned by the Ralkin's chest investor. The glare from the sinking sun was beginning to fade to a deepening orange as the carriage pulled to a halt at the edge of the perimeter.

"You don't have to worry about being paraded in front of any diginitaries, or be asked to make any speeches." Eli continued, as the pair stepped from their transport and onto the stone tiles of Logan's property. They were greeted by Sergeant Carlson with a salute for his superior officer and a nod for the Priest he'd escorted to Brambrook several days ago. His men fell into line behind them as they headed towards the outwards facing seats set up in the shelter of the barm-like canopy of Drewmount Shipping. The huge doors were open to give a clear view to the attendee's when the demonstration began.

"We wouldn't want to earn the emnity of your church by openly declaring it our ally. You being here is a good faith gesture to keep them informed about our activites. This is about offering protection, not declaring war."

"Still quite a show of force though, sir." Carlson said, from behind them.

"Nothing wrong with confidence in your strength, Sergeant." The half-elf replied without turning.

It sounded sinister enough to Tim. He returned Sergeant Carlson's nod -- he liked the man and hoped he'd survive his association with these devil-worshipping fiends, without becoming one of htem -- and made light conversation with Eli about what was going on, learning names, backgrounds, and histories that do not enter into this tale, and above all keeping close to the Black Guard captain, the one who'd brought him here.

Meantime Eisenfaust messengers were bringing back the news that both lines of inquiry -- the tip from the crystal and the trail of the priest -- were leading to the exact same place. Soon the elves, the kobold, the disguised half-elf, and the two Tsuirakuan wizards would be crashing the party, with whatever warnings and help their shady allies would provide.

Eli found a seat near the front of the general congregation as the remainder of Logan's guard arrived at the compound and headed to their designated positions. The security for the affair was tight but not over-the-top; it wouldn't do to appear threatening to the assembled dignitaries and investors after all. Many of them had already opted to bring their own retinues given the hour and the location of the meet.

The half-elf looked up briefly at the road near the perimeter of the demonstration area and nodded to himself as the Priest took his place next to him and Carlson moved his squad to flank the right side of the growing number of spectators. Brother Tim saw the lone coach trundling towards Drewmount Shipping. It was a dark-green affair pulled by black horses and manned by a pair of the bigger soldiers Logan's military had to offer.

"The master is here." He murmured side-mouth to his friend.

......

On the outskirts of the Port. The kobold pulled the hood of her jacket more firmly around her face and turned to face the ocean beyond. She watched the play of the light on the water before the big ball of fire sank below the horizon for another night.

"See you again when this is over." She whispered under her breath.

OOC ...and with that. A new topic? I'm aiming to set up tomorrow sometime if people have any parting words./OOC

Udo gave her a firm touch on the shoulder. "All the way!" he said. Oddly, for him, there was nothing sensual in the touch or the words.

Jargalan smirked and spoke not a word. He just made sure the wig covered his ears, in case his illusions were pierced. It was easy for Drusia to see he was alive to his surroundings and looking foward to the excitement.

OOC: Sure. Just throw a link to the new thread in this one.

Also, you should probably PM me concerning how you imagining this attack going down. As in the past, without some preplanning things can go a bit off plan. Particularly since Drusia's natural state is fast, decicsive kills, which might be a bit of a let-down. :p
