The latest episode of Doctor Who (s10e06) features a Heretic Knowledge Vault in the Vatican.

Is that an actual thing / real-world legend that Veracia's version is in imitation of, or did two works of fiction just come up with the same concept indepedently?

I don't think that's a real place. It sounds cool though. I remember that Doctor Who episode, it was pretty fun.
