Airship Pirates, Chapter 1: Isabel

For in-universe game play. Journey through both familiar and foreign settings, explore lost ruins and forgotten cities, and try to bring light to the darkness of the world... or, you know, blow stuff up. Either way.

Katie looked on, bewildered, as Hurricane Leana raged on the bridge of the airship. After a few moments of slowly coloring, she drew a pistol and cocked it, trying to point it at the cacophony of noise and movement. "Hold... Still..." However, before she could do anything amiss, Tom wandered onto the bridge, holding the puppy. Katie blinked twice. "Dog?" She drew and cocked a second pistol. Determining whether she could accurately aim two pistols at once was forestalled, however, by Rip's entry onto the bridge. Sighing, she quickly did the math (two hands with three targets equals not enough hands...) and put the pistols away. "Well?" she asked Rip.

"Not much to report," Rip said, trying to avoid sneezing; he was allergic to small dogs. "The Queen A is just about devoid of anything worth pillaging, except maybe for a primo recipe for beef curry. There were only a few crew on board, and they weren't in much shape to talk. In fact, they'd been knocked silly when we snagged 'em. All the others are down there ... somewhere." He pointed back toward where the airship had been moored when they discovered her.

Leana eventually trips, falling then turning onto her back, "Woooo, the ceiling is moving at 600 knots!" She declares, "How in the world I forgot about lightning rush, I'll never know!" She says quite cheerful and at normal speeds.
"So, what was with the firearms earlier? Oh and what are we doing now?" Leana questions Katie.

"We're trying to decide whether to go down to the ground after them," Rip explained to Electric Girl as Katie rolled her eyes. "One problem, though, is that we don't know exactly where they are or what they're doing. We --"

Shorty interrupted. "Rip, look out the window."

Large birds were approaching the Bonny Read, from all points of the compass. The BR wasn't their quarry or target or birdbath or whatever, she just happened to be in the vicinity of whatever was. One passed close enough to the window that Rip could see what manner of fowl it was: a vulture. So, presumably, were the others.

The buzzards swirled into a vortex-like cloud and gradually descended toward the exact spot on the ground where the Queen Alice's Revenge had been moored before the BR had snagged it.

"Well, scratch that," Rip corrected himself.

Katie looked out the window, her expression grim.

"Rip... Get down there. Take whoever you need with you. I want to know what happened to that crew." She glowered, her expression turning outright angry, and in a low, threatening voice, she muttered "And don't get your fool ass killed doing it."

"Shorty?" Rip called. "You're joining us on this." He turned to go, taking Tom and Leana with him, just in time to hear the expected remonstration.

"Uh, you sure about that?" the huge man said. "I'm not really much better in a fight than you are."

That wasn't actually true, but it also wasn't what was on Rip's mind. "No, but you're a lot bigger target than I am ... and if whatever's down there is a man-eater, there's enough flesh on your bones to keep it happy while the rest of us bug out."

[OOC: Parenthetically, this would be an excellent time for newcomers to join the party, or old regulars to return for more fun.]

"Wh0 needs a distraction, shield magic works fine, or electricity can too, ya know how easy it is to stop a heart with it?" Leana said.

"Humans do have weak hearts... and Immune systems... and life spans..."She says sounding depressed, "Gah!" She exclaims, "Why do humans suck so much!?"

"Why do humans suck so much!?"

Something about this "conversation" wasn't sitting altogether well with Rip.

"You'd rather be half troll or something?" he retorted, then wished he hadn't said it. Well, this girl seemed to be half something, for sure. Not expecting an answer, he turned back to Shorty. "Let's use the runabout to get down there. For one thing, it'll keep us all together. For another, if we have a sudden need to, ah, decamp, it'll get us out faster than a rope ladder or a hang glider."

The huge man nodded agreement and set off to prepare the small airship that was strapped to the hull.

"Sure, why not, half troll lives longer and is more sturdy, I'd much rather Leana be a half troll" She replies.

I had to ask, Rip thought.

The runabout dropped toward the surface, with the merry crew in it.

[OOC: And over to Sareth for the first glimpse of what we're going to see there.]
