We're gagging for new players in errant road anyway, i reckon as long as s/he is balanced and not clashing with the poe-verse plot it'll work just fine.

Well, the basic concept I have is a sort of artifice specialist. Adept at making things like golems and magic staves given the time and resources, but due to his specialisation in artificering, he's not very good at casting spells without the help of some piece of magical equipment. So he'd be good at wielding one of those magical staves, but almost incapable of creating fireballs or whathaveyou without such a device.

I was also considering having a golem servant of some fashion tag along with him. Something that's good at looking imposing and carrying heavy loads, but is probably too clumsy for a fight against experienced opponents. The golem isn't very important to the concept though, and I can drop it if it might cause problems.

That looks workable, and is consistent with him having studied in Tsuiraku. I'd say go ahead and write up a description as was done for other characters; see earlier entries in this thread for examples.

Where would you be introducing this guy? Lorrel, I presume? This is a very good time for new characters there, but you'd want to do some thinking about exactly what he's doing there. I have some ideas based on that golem trade; if you wish, private-message me and we can work some stuff out off-line before introducing him.

Well, after giving it some more thought, I don't think I'm quite comfortable enough in my knowledge of the fluff to run a half elf (Still only part way through the comic.). So, I'm thinking I'll just run a straight human tsuirakuan mage instead.

Alright, here's the new write up. Hope everything checks out.

Name: Himiko Nareid
Origin: Tsuiraku
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 19

Himiko is the fourth child of a fairly wealth Tsuirakuan family. She spent the majority of her childhood and adolescent years training at a prestigious Arcane Academy. Here it became obvious that she had a rather stunted magical ability, and found it a struggle to pass even the most basic of courses. Try as she might, she could never summon a firebolt powerful enough to do more than singe one's clothing, or summon more than an egg sized rock.

However, she managed to compensate for this inherent lack of magical ability through intense training and studying. While this didn't really alleiviate her spellcasting issues, it did allow her to pass her courses with satisfactory grades. She spent much of her school life being ostracized by her classmates for her seriously lacking magical aptitude.

However, throughout her studies, there were two fields that Himiko excelled at. Artifice and Alchemy, though her artificering abilities far outstripped her alchemical abilities. She built a number of simple golems and less sophisiticated magical devices. In her senior year, she constructed her golem servant Ozmandias for her final project.

After graduating, she continued to hone her artifice abilities for a time, before finally growing bored with life in Tsuiraku. She then packed up her belongings and decided to go on a trip to see the world at large.

Ozmandias:
Ozmandias is a fully functional, seven foot tall basalt golem carved in the shape of a bald and heavily muscled individual. While he's incredibly strong and a rather intimidating sight to behold, he's also rather clumsy, making him ineffective against more experienced opponents in a fight. However, he does a good job of hauling around Himiko's belongings.

Koibert:
Koibert is Himiko's familiar. He takes the appearance of a floating koi fish lazily "swimming" through the air around Himiko's head. He rarely speaks, but when he does, those who listen should do well to heed his words of wisdom.

Possessions:
Battlemage Staff (Or maybe just a wand of fireball or something, if the staff is considered too powerful)
Several changes of clothes, mostly robes
Cart (pulled by Ozmandias)
Neccesary equipment to set up a functional artificer's workshop and alchemist's lab
A few curative potions
Ample amount of coin

I think this gal is a pretty balanced character, I like how you mixed up the strengths and weaknesses and present new avenues to explore with her skills. Where are you planning on bringing this character in?

This guy... For Port Lorrel. I got lazy and will flesh out his mysteeeeerious past later.

Name: Jonah Cradshaw.
Age: 25
Occupation: Career Criminal/Bandit.

Equipment:
Cut down lever action Rifle, Revolver, Ammo for both. Huge knife. Wand of Fireball, and a Wand of Dispel (Both mounted on his rifle).

Appearance:
Jonah is reasonably tall, standing around the 6'1" mark, although not particularly broad he does have a fit physique. His hair is white-blonde, and his eyes are green. Jonah has more than a few scars, most of them from gunshot wounds. He wears neat clothes but seems to have a fondness for those coats worn by veracian priests, although he usually has them dyed or altered in some way to set him apart from a clergyman.

Personality:
Hot-blooded to say the word. Jonah is prone to bouts of rage and when he isn't obviously furious about something he seems to default somewhere around irratation or annoyed. He seems to fear death no more than he would fear drinking a cup of tea, and is keenly aware of others being in rough circumstances that would make their lives harder, and has several times gone out of his way to help others in rough situations. Although always seething about something he is actually a decent man, generous in his own way and protective of others who he actually likes.

History:
Very little is known about Jonah before his appearance eight years ago as a wanted individual in a Lorenzel port who had killed a priest in the Anuban colonies and had stolen his identity to board a vessel going as far away as possible from that place.

The most anyone can determine is that he is some sort of escaped convict from the Anuban penal colonies who had been serving an extended sentence before his eventual escape over the oceans and back to the mainland, originally Anuban born and bred he had spent much of his adolescence in prison for various small convictions before being convicted for a major crime, the nature of which he is loath to mention and many who know him think he was framed for, never the less he has since gotten into enough trouble to have him sentenced to far worse.

After racking up an impressive body count in his journey through the Veracian Empire over a course of two years he eventually wound up in Farrel by conning his way past the tsuirakuan controlled warp gates. For several years now he has been basing himself out of Kiyoka and Port Lorrel, one where he is apparently trying to teach himself magic and the other where he has some connections with the Eisenfaust.

Skills:
Marksmanship, Running, Able to brew some form of moonshine from most forms of rotting vegetation, Fair hand in a knife fight. Jonah dabbles in magic, and is able to cast a mediocre healing spell, a fairly good Iron Skin enchantment, a functional slow fall spell and is skilled at using most common magical doodads and whatsits.

Both of these characters look quite well thought out and workable. As Jack says, the strengths and weaknesses balance each other well, and should offer plenty of opportunities for role playing -- able to do interesting things without succumbing to Mary Sue, which is all too easy.

The one thing I'd suggest rethinking, although it's not crucial, is the flying-koi familiar. There are several reasons, but the main one is that it seems rather at odds with the way familiars are made: that is, as intelligent, interacting (sometimes but not always talking) extensions of their natural equivalents. Consider Ellis, who for all his "enhancements" is (or was...) still a cat, and is constrained in his behavior by his basic "catness." The one fundamental thing about a fish is that it lives in the water; that's part of "fishness." Lacking any clarity in canon about how familiars work, this one may be pushing the envelope somewhat. (Or maybe not.) Anyway, it's not a huge issue.

Well, I figured that a flying fish familiar wouldn't be too far off, considering there's already a land octopus familiar in the canon. But well, I can change it if it's a problem.
