Getsemiel, part 2

(OOC: Awww. Ah, well.)

Argus stopped mid-knock. Rose, was snoring, loudly. Well. All right then.

With a shrug and a feeling of disappointment, Argus slid back into his room, facing Harker's astonished gaze. "She's asleep. I could hear her snoring through the door, and she didn't even respond to my knock."

Harker nodded, considering. "...Shit."

"My thoughts exactly."

"...Do you want some pornographic images of Rosie, Boss?"

"No, thank you, Harker."

OOC I think you can just assume that Tamina and Udo are camped up at a bar somewhere and will regroup with everyone near the docks in the morning./OOC

"Brother Timothy, and no other."

Eli opened the door impatiently and met the brother with eyes framed by the bags of the sleepless.

"What are you doing here?"

Lillith lifted her arms above her, bending and twisting at the waist. She winced a bit as the maneuvers stretched sore muscles but did little to ease the tension. She bent forward, her head resting on her knees, her hair brushing the floor between her shins.

"Are you still sure about this? I mean, if you're stiff..."

"Silly man." Lillith smiled as she stood up and turned to Brad. "My reasoning still holds. It's been months and we've heard nothing from them. So either some disaster occurred that was so great that there's no one to hear from," Lillith's face briefly became grim, "or they had no need to send any kind of message because we're there with them." This time she smiled as she put her hand on Brad's cheek, then leaned in for a sensual kiss.

"You know, we could go visit your mother."

"Mother can wait. They may not be able to. Now hush and get our packs."

"You know, there's some sort of paradox in there somewhere, but thinking about it too much gives me headaches." Brad shook his head, then wrapped his arms around Lillith from behind, nuzzling her head with his chin. "Are you sure we can't wait a little longer?"

"We have an airship to catch." Lillith smiled, then swatted Brad's hand as it wandered. Brad persisted and Lillith gave a little gasp. "Oh, alright. But only an hour, then we really do need to go."

Brad whooped and swept Lillith off her feet.

Kattie put on her best smile as the couple walked down the gangplank. They had been charming, sweet, adorable, utterly nauseating... But they had actually put money into the all too empty coffers. And since the Bonnie Reed had been heading towards Port Lorrel anyway, it hadn't hurt to have them aboard. Much.

"Good riddance," a querulous voice groused from the darkness inside the ship. "Bad luck having one o' them aboard. I mean, bad enough one o' them knee scrappin Verashun priests, but one o' those point eared sun worshippin women? Bad luck all around I say. Never been gladder to see the backside o one o them, and I appreciate looking at a good backside. Almost as nice as yours I say, but still hope not to see it agin and"

"Shorty, stow it." Kattie shook her head. "Just get us fueled up and resupplied. And tell Rip to get some sort of cream for that itch! He's almost as noisy at night as that woman was, and for more curable reasons!"

"Aye Aye, Kattie. I'll let him know. And I hadn't thought she was that loud. Kept me and the lads entertained the last two nights an' all. Why, I was telling them"

The hurled pistol caught Shorty on the forehead, speeding him on his way.

"Last chance. Are you sure about this?"

Lillith rubbed the little bauble in her hand with a thumb, sucking her lip a bit. "I am. Blaise's boat was headed this way the last we'd heard. He would have needed to stop here for fuel, if I'm any guess. Even if we don't know where the others headed after we left, they'd be following Blaise's trail, so Port Lorrel seems the best place to look."

"I know," Brad nodded. "I just worry. You know that. And your sister did say this would only work once, so I'd hate to waste it."

"Silly man." Lillith kissed Brad's cheek, then took his hand in her left. With her right she pressed the shiny button on top of it, carefully concentrating.

The lights went out, flashed, and went cinnamon. For the briefest of moments she was convinced she was falling bluewards. At least, that's the best Lillith could have described it. The sentient mind had not, it seemed, ever been designed to quite understand violations of the fourth wall dimension, deliberate or no. Regardless, her senses quickly reset to "reality" as the gloomy early winter day was replaced by the glow of a late spring sunrise.

The bauble in her hand made little popping and crackling sounds before slowly vibrating itself into a pile of broken thaumotological parts. Lillith gave it a little pat and put it in the pocket of her overcoat, then slipped her pack off. Shrugging out of the fur lined coat, she put it in the pack, then straightened up. Glancing over to Brad, she nodded when she saw that he had similarly exchanged his jacket for a cooler priestly vestment.

Brad glanced at the sky to watch as the sun began creeping over the horizon. A brief glance towards the fading stars of the still dark sky to the West and he nodded. "If I don't miss my guess, we can't be more than a couple of days past when they left."

"Excellent. So now we just need to find out exactly when and where we are, and when and where they are." Lillith nodded, then began gnawing her lip.

"What's wrong, my sweet?" Brad took her hands in his and kissed her fingertips.

"Well..." Lillith paused, then pulled one of her hands to swat playfully at Brad's hands. "Stop that, you sappy man. You're making it hard to think." Lillith gathered her thoughts together for a second, then slumped the tiniest bit. "To be honest, I don't know where to start asking around for them."

"Oh, that's easy!" Brad smiled the smile of a shining knight rescuing the princess he's hoping to deflower later. "If they've been here they'll have at least made contact with the local temple."

Lillith blinked, then went up on tiptoe to wrap her arms around Brad's shoulders. "I knew I married you for a reason." Her voice turned more serious for a moment. "I love you, Bradley Nuria."

"I love you too, Lillith Nuria."

"Get a room!" someone shouted.

Lillith laughed and stepped back. "I suppose we should be going?"

"After you, honey."

****

Brad led the way out of the side street. Together, he and Lillith looked at the front doors to the Luminositan Temple. They were closed, but a light could be seen inside. "The doors should be unlocked so early morning parishioners can do their morning devotionals."

Lillith nodded. "Then we might as well head on insiWHOOOOOoooo"

Her suggestion was cut off by the sudden rushing of air from her lungs as a figure bounced off of Brad and flew into her. Lillith went down in a surprised, breathless heap with the figure atop her.

"HEY!" Brad shouted. "Lillith!" He reached down to haul the figure off the top of his wife.

The figure grabbed the hand with desperate strength. "Please! You have to hide me! I'm being pursued by a hideous beast!"

Before Brad had a chance to respond, the figure glanced back, then dove under Lillith's skirts. A leg shot out, knocking Brad off his feet to land above Lillith and the bundle under her skirt.

A second figure dashed out from the alleyway the original surprise attack had been launched from. "JAMIE PORTER! YOU COME BACK HERE AT ONCE! I'm taking you back, so help me god!" The figure quickly coalesced into a rifle wielding woman. She glanced down at the pile and frowned. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to have been knocked down by a..."

Brad pointed down the street.

"Thanks!" The woman shot of at a high rate of speed.

"Lillith!" Brad shouted, even though he was mere inches above her, propped up on his knees and elbows. "Are you alright?"

Lillith waved her hand vaguely, then wheezed. "Fine," she gasped. "But someone... between thighs... is not you."

Brad glowered downward. He flipped Jamie's skirt just enough to not quite ensure modesty and grabbed the huddled figure. Standing up he lifted the trespasser upright, never releasing the deathgrip he had on the nape of this strangers neck. Then he reached down and helped Lillith to her feet.

"Hey there," the dangling figure said. "That your wife? You're one lucky man. Those are some of the softest thighs I've ever had my face between."

Brad wound up for a colossal punch. Still wheezing, Lillith grabbed his elbow. "Brad," she admonished.

"But..."

"Let's at least... hear his story first..." Lillith cracked an awkward smile. "Then... you can punch... him."

Brad harumphed, but lowered his arm. "Fine. What was the big deal with knocking down my wife then crawling inside her skirt?"

"Yeah, sorry about that. See, it wasn't my plan, but then I needed to hide and there was no time to try anything else. You have no idea what that woman is capable of. I mean, if she'd gotten her hands on me..." The boy shuddered. "Anyway, my name's Jamie. But I guess you heard that already." Suddenly the young face lit up. "Oh, hey! Have you seen my girlfriend around here anywhere? She's my girlfriend but we kind of got separated. Oh, and she's a kobold."

Brad looked bewildered. Lillith glanced over to Brad looking just as confused. "Kobold?" Together the two looked at Jamie, still dangling from Brad's fist. Together they asked, "What's a kobold?"

Eli opened the door impatiently and met the brother with eyes framed by the bags of the sleepless. "What are you doing here?"

Too short an answer would get the door slammed in his face -- he wished he'd arrived before the man got so tired. At least that was a book on the table behind him, rather than whiskey bottles. Tim spoke quickly, in earnest -

"I saw how you rescued her from those slavers, like that" - he snapped his fingers - "And I saw how she was reacting. And how you went off angry, and didn't come back. I've seen her again and how she is - she's back with us and she's being taken care of. I hope you'll come back too. But there's a point or two might be worth discussing.

OOC Tamina: Sareth's back! Yay! Jay-me's back! Yay!

JR: Settle down spaz.... :D /OOC

Eli stared at Tim for a moment as if he were trying to assess how genuine the man was, and nodded. He stepped out the room and closed the door behind him with a click which was harder than strictly necessary. He followed Tim to the bar with a glazed over look in his eyes.

A moment later the pair were sitting on stools with drinks in front of them. The half-elf sipped his beer in an absent fashion, as though the taste of the thing wasn't worth noting. Silently Eli tried to weigh up the Brother's intentions. It was all too easy for him to remember the incident of a few days ago where the pair had come to blows but, for now at least, Tim seemed relatively benign.

"I make no apologies for my earlier actions." He began. "They were corrupted human beings who stole someone I care about, and made a living by selling people into slavery." A thought suddenly occurred to him. "So if you're here on Desiree's behalf, well... I'd sooner talk to her personally." He took a sip of his drink and cleared his throat. "I had no plans to leave you all, I just needed some time alone... the death of a relative isn't something which is easy to adjust to."

"Apologies? Why on earth would you apologize for that? It's exactly what they needed, and I'm sure it's just what they'd get in my country or yours.

"No, I haven't talked to Desiree since then - she's gotten very skittish around men. I don't know what those swine did to her while they had her. But she seemed to respond well to Rose, getting comfort from her and like that, so Argus and I stayed back and let her do it. I don't know how long she'll be like that." Wouldn't know even if she was human. Tim had started thinking of Eli as human outright, but didn't reflect on this fact.

"Sorry you lost your uncle like that - I really don't know anything about him, or what you've learned - would you like to talk about it?"

[OOC: OK, just buying a little time so Eli and Tim can finish, and then it's on to the new thread, and new adventures...]

The deep, almost comatose slumber passed after a couple of hours, and Sister Rose woke up, feeling simultaneously refreshed (at least in a thaumatic sense) and much in need of "real" sleep. And there was something else wrong ...

Why do I feel like I'm being watched?

She took a moment to smooth out her outfit, not wanting to invest even the minimal energy required for a Hygiene spell. It didn't have to be perfect; she was going to change into her regular night clothes and have a normal (if ... lonely) night's sleep as soon as she'd figured out what was going on -- because it certainly felt like something was.

Cautiously, she cracked open her door, revealing a darkened hall. That was probably good. The adjacent rooms were quiet; that might or might not be good, depending on whether they were occupied or not. I think I need to -- talk to Argus if he's awake. She stepped out into the hall to go down to his room and "Oh!"

She'd just about tripped over Harker, who'd been curled up in front of her door.

The beaver hauled himself erect to his full three-foot height as Rose mumbled apologies. Then he shook his head and emitted the kind of sigh she'd been used to Argus producing ... and impaled her with a glare.

"Boy, did you screw up, Toots," he said, and with exaggerated dignity, he walked back to Argus' room, shaking his head, and leaving Rose wondering just what she'd done now.

Eli smiled at Tim. Despite everything he was actually getting to like the human; he understood the necessity of the ugly side of doing good, and he wasn't a slouch with a blade besides. The half-elf surprised himself by clapping a companionable hand on the man's shoulder.

"Talk about Telan?" He mused, drained his pint, and then burst into sudden laughter. A mood aided by the alcohol rushing to his head.

"The man was a prick! He argued with my father all the time, he never took anything seriously, and the last thing he said to us before he left Sna-.... uhh, our hometown was that 'we were a bunch of stay-at-home sheep who were too afraid to use the gifts the Gods had given us!'"

The half-elf motioned to the bartender to refill their glasses before continuing.

"And you know what? He was right. We've let fear compromise who we are. We cringe in fear of discovery, hide in shadows, and pack up and run the moment things get tough... and that isn't good enough."

Eli drained his glass a second time, as if his own words had galvanized him out of his earlier vacant state. He slammed the container down on the bar.

"Telan was a reminder of that, and now he's dead."

Tim smiled back as he nursed his own drink. Actually, he wanted to know more about this - he'd already been told the elves would murder their own half-elf children, and he vaguely understood they were the reason behind all this secrecy about this mystery home. But he suspected that asking about it directly would sour the mood to no point just now. And he was glad not to know the kind of details that could be used against his companions.

"I'd like to have met him," he said. "He sounds very direct. Where does this leave you now?" -- that question could be taken a couple of different ways, which was fine by Tim; the point was to let Eli steer the conversation to whatever was on his mind.

"Waiting eagerly for the morning." Eli replied promptly. "There are people just as bad as the ones who kidnapped the priestess who need to be dealt with... and they will be dealt with."

With that, the half-elf pushed to his feet and began making his way back to his room.

"The weatherby docks. 10 of the clock." He intoned. "Don't be late."
