Goriel and beyond, part 2

As we play, occasionally we'll close a thread and open a new one to keep the size of threads (and relative complexity) down to a dull roar. Here's where we store the closed posts from the history of Errant Road.

OOC: Ah good. After all, as we all know, playing with yourself is never very satisfying. It's always more fun to play with others. I wouldn't want to be left lonely and unsated.

"It is in good time," he said. "I have a message that the Duravsky are sending men with their Getera, and to bring you back to them. I think they will be here in a very few minutes."

I nod.

Not much else to do. I wait patiently. Good practice for the next few days. Waiting is am important skill in submission play - making someone wait, particularly in an uncomfortable fashion, is a classic method of intimidation.

I wonder if Argus and Rose will be here to see me off. Since that wasn't part of my responsibility, I didn't ask about the protocal for how Argus will receive the Duravsky Getera.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

"Make sure the first place you loot is an apothecary. She'll need ointment fore those blisters."

"Still got the monies from the escort job!" Tamina replied brightly. "N' I gots the healing magics! C'mere!"

The kobold took her girlfriend's hands with a chuckle (it wasn't strictly part of the process but Tamina was still so glad to have Jaime back that she was taking every opportunity to touch her that was presented) and murmured a few words to make the blisters disappear. With the quick spell done she raised a freshly healed hand to her face and planted a kiss on the palm. She smiled at Jaime.

"Glad you're back." She said. "Glad we're away from the bad elfy-man too. Had bad magic, could've been dangerous."

.....

The 'bad-elfy man' had woken that morning out of a thin sleep with a buzzing brain and a body full of lead. His studies of the tome and Tim's subjequent tuition had gone late into the night. Eli shoveled food into his mouth as Brad approached in a manner of a man doing work while possibilities raced through his mind.

"So what's the plan for today?" Eli asked the new arrival, pushing away his half-finished meal as he did. "I didn't catch all the details yesterday."

Argus nodded, falling into character. "Very good, daughter. Then let us make the exchange. There are forms to be followed in this place." He strode away, Lillith at his heels.

As he led Tim and Eli to the main group, Brad had explained what little he knew. The Prime Minister's clan, Clan Duravsky, was going to send one of its geteroi, which apparently was some kind of professional "mistress" that made Brad blush to talk about, and Desiree was going to go back there to serve in the same role. Then this evening, everyone else had an invitation to a feast with Clan Yurkashev. Brad had no idea of any lead on Blaise, but seemed confident that Luminosita would provide.

Soon enough, Argus led Desiree to the front of the temple, and the rest of "Clan Cleiviein" filed out behind him. There was no time to set up an order with subtle social signals to be sent according to who stood where, but at a gesture from Father Boris' head, Rose took the hint and stood a little behind her husband.

The welcoming party was not long in coming. It was led by a taller, stronger, older man than Pyotr, wearing leather and fur and armed only with a large dagger. Father Boris would later explain that this in itself could be read as a mark of favor, and a sign that Argus had done well in talking up Desiree's abilities - this was Vladimir, a close cousin to Arman, and one who carried more personal honor than Pyotr. His choice of weapons was a sign of his confidence - in truth, he would probably have been safe wearing only a smile, given his position and reputation. And given the four armed men behind him, all carrying round bucklers, with curved swords at their belts and, in two cases, spears in hand. Vladimir himself stepped forward and genuflected, bowing lower than Andrei had done the previous day, whether to show greater honor to the visiting chieftain, or to display his own confidence that he walked in safety.

"A good morning to you, my dread Lord Cleiviein, and peace to this meeting between us. My Lord Duravsky was honored and delighted that you accepted his offer of hospitality, and sends his greetings, and wishes you all fortunes in this our most hospitable city. May you find pure delight while you are here, and return speedily when you leave; and if any should bring trouble upon your house, don't hesitate to send word to us, that we may make all right. And to ensure your felicity, he sends" -- and here he stepped aside - "the lovely Kirassia, also of the Duravsky, may she bring you endless joy for as long as you remain with us."

The young lady who stepped forward was somewhat short of five feet - she had been quite invisible amidst her escorts. Her garments were bright, silky, and revealing in the right place (i.e., her extremely slender waist), and inlaid with flashing jewels that showed the wealth of her House. Her black hair was thick and hung to waist length, with a silver comb on one side. Her skin was a little darker than the norm here, and her eyes were darker than the norm anywhere - they were downcast at first, as she made her courtesy, but the more perceptive in the group saw their black flash as she gave them an appraising first look. Knowing her part and her place, she paused where she was just long enough for everyone to get a good look. Then several people were looking at Argus and Desiree, expecting somebody to do something.

I keep my head bowed while I take her in, only my eyes flicking up to note her.

I'm glad I thought to put on some jewelery. Not that I have anywhere near as much or as high quality as she does. Still a couple of nice garnet and gold earrings adorn my ears, and a couple of gold (plated) bracelets on each wrist. It's something anyway.

I'm also glad Lillith helped me with my hair. Mine is actually a little longer than hers, but I have a more complex arrangement - for now anyway. I can't count on having much help once I'm there.

I smile, just slightly, as if unintentionally. I return my eyes to the ground at my feet. It's up to Argus to make the exchange - all I can do is wait for him to do so.

Viewing the Getera through her eyelashes, Lillith found herself wondering about the girl. The darker skin implied a foreign origin amongst these pale skinned folk. But the evaluating look the woman had given the group spoke of someone shrewd enough to be much more than a beaten down slave from somewhere else. Lillith warned herself to be careful about this one. She likely could figure out a good deal.

Suddenly, Lillith drew in a sharp breath. She quickly willed herself to perfect stillness, hoping no one had noticed. Only her eyes moved, frantically seeking out Rose.

I need to speak with Ro... Mother quickly. The sooner the better. We've got a problem. A big one.

Her eyes slipped back to the Getera. A Getera who would expect to "service" at least some of the men of the house and grow suspicious when Tim the Chaste, Brad the Loyal, Eli the Mad, and most importantly, Dread Lord Argus all refused her attentions.

Jamie grinned at Tamina. "Thanks! Oh, and don't worry about money. Everything's on the house today!" She glanced over at Udo. "Hey! Oddo! Ya coming? I have a mind to liberate a few kegs of beer!"

Udo, after yesterday's adventure (some of the crew called it his "dope-on-a-rope" moment), didn't need to be told of the need to protect his hands. He was descending in different way -- using his staff to create a sort of small umbrella to slow his fall, and using the rope only to guide him down. He was touching down just as Jamie called out. He'd missed the context so he wasn't quite sure what she meant. "So, we're gonna vary piracy with a little burglary?" - the phrase had a nice ring somehow.

OOC: I would post my "Facepalm" picture again, but there doesn't seem to be much point. :|
