Clovius and beyond

As we play, occasionally we'll close a thread and open a new one to keep the size of threads (and relative complexity) down to a dull roar. Here's where we store the closed posts from the history of Errant Road.

Since Rose had refused even to acknowledge Tim's message -- rude, irritating, typical -- he decided to let the issue drop. If they were going to be travelling with this clown, they'd have the whole of their journey to get every last detail out of him. If the Church really wanted it at all.

Of course this "souvenir hunt" was probably Rose's excuse to go look anyway and scratch that little itch, but without any Churchmen in vestments that shouldn't cause any particular trouble. Rose herself wouldn't be provoked by insults to the Orthodox Church. No doubt they'd give her a chance to feel superior; no doubt that was really why she was so eager to see the sacrilege. And Tamina, who had a better heart than Rose's, wouldn't comprehend it.

Tamina left with Rose in a merry half-skipping walk at the prospect of souvenir shopping. She mused over the exciting possibilities as they made their way over.

"Maybe we could get some priesty clothes? Or priesty books? Or priesty gumbo! Humans do priesty gumbo right? Sure I saw the right mushrooms on the ride here. Though... peoples aren't good for doing much after a bowl of it..."

"He seems -- colorful," Therese mused to Desiree as she worked the powder into her friend's hair. ("Friend"? By now she was pretty sure there was more to it than that... but the time still wasn't quite right for a full exploration of the situation.) She subsided to listen to the negotiation between Argus and Dess Marson, which seemed to be going well. A listener might have speculated that Argus had something on the other man from their time as pub crawlers in Kiyoka. The listener would be right.

"We'll be headin' for Salvus from here," Marson was saying, which was the main thing Therese wanted to hear. "That's the main trade center in the southern part of the Confederacy," she murmured to Desiree as Marson described some minor, intermediate stops. "We'll be able to get to Refuge-Nouveau from there pretty easily." The kneading of Desiree's hair became a caress.

-----------

It wouldn't do to return to the room, and Dess Marson, without some manner of souvenir, Sister Rose realized, although the main goal that she and Tamina had was reconnaissance. "I, er, think we should get something more, well, conventional than mushrooms," she answered. They found a small shop advertising curios made of "genuine dragon scales" -- she couldn't help but snicker at the thought -- not too far from where the fallen Luminositan temple was supposed to be, and busied themselves with inspecting some of the goods, all the time keeping an eye on the traffic on the street.

It wasn't long before Rose spotted some highly incongruous passersby. Several young women were heading for the temple, wearing what might have been robes of the Veracian Church, with the notable exception of skirts short enough that they would have made Sister Marilyn blush. Their figures were also very non-nun-like, and to the extent she could hear them, so was their conversation. "Employees of the gambling joint, I'd wager," Rose observed softly to Tamina. She chuckled. "Desiree would have been in her element ... and Tim would have been mortified beyond words." Another chuckle. "I'd love to have seen it."

Tamina looked up from a stand decorated in ribbons and necklaces at Rose's words and stared unabashedly at the women headed to the holy-building-turned-casino, saving the lion's share for one young lady who had, in the kobold's opinion, a truly spectacular pair of legs.

"Just as well Tim never saw the Killikah lands." She giggled, angling her head for a last peek as the doors closed behind the procession. "We, umm, usually wear less than that back home."

She turned to the real nun and held up a length of red ribbon with a smile.

"For m' tail." She explained. "Lost the last one somewhere on the road."

OOC It just so happens the character's appreciation of legs is shared by the creator. :D /OOC

[OOC: Understood, JR. ;) Most of the point of going to Holy Rollers is lost with Dess Marson already having been re-introduced, so to cut this short and get ready to move on:]

"Just make sure it's well concealed," Sister Rose smiled to Tamina. "I don't think troll children have tails, and we don't want to ruin your disguise." She winked.

What had been done to the temple to convert it to a gambling hall could be worse, she judged, but Luminosita knew, it was bad enough. The exterior had been left surprisingly intact, but the aromas coming from inside were nothing that had ever "graced" even a Calfornican temple, at least not unless a great deal of sacramental wine had been spilled. A few men were emerging wearing outfits that were half formal wear, half priests' robes; croupiers ending their shift and giving way to the "nuns," Rose guessed. At least they looked well-maintained; she'd been expecting as sleazy a place as existed on the earth, but if it was a sacrilegious abomination, at least it was a reasonably classy one. Tim was right on one thing, however: she didn't want to think about what the altar might be used for.

"Looks like Tim is going to have his work cut out for him," she mused to Tamina. "Let's see how things are going with negotiating some transportation back south." They started back for the inn.

"He seems -- colorful," Therese mused to Desiree as she worked the powder into her friend's hair.

"That's one word for it," I reply. Therese nods, but doesn't say more - she's listening in on the conversation. I do as well, although there isn't much to hear.

"We'll be headin' for Salvus from here," Marson was saying.
"That's the main trade center in the southern part of the Confederacy," Therese murmurs to me as Marson described some minor, intermediate stops. "We'll be able to get to Refuge-Nouveau from there pretty easily." The kneading of Desiree's hair became a caress.

I lean into her touch, sighing happily. "I can't wait," I say, nearly purring.

OOC: At this point, I'm ready to fast-forward to Rose receiving the parrot from home with a decision on Tim staying to become priest in Clovius, and shortly after that, to further fast-forward to departure with Dess Marson's caravan. (Incidentally, A, the decision on Tim will be whatever you want it to be. It could be enthusiastic approval, or regretful rejection; you decide, and the message will fit.) There will be a couple of minor things before departure involving Tovah Dragonslayer and maybe some others, but they'll make more sense after the parrot. Does anyone have other things to deal with at the present time?

[OOC: OK, so skipping ahead a few hours...]

Dess Marson was just wrapping up with Argus as Sister Rose and Tamina returned to the inn. "Well," he said, "gotta go see if Ol' Lady Dragonslayer has any more scales for me." He winked, for reasons not apparent to anyone else. "Maybe later on, you an' I can go over to Holy Rollers and have some fun... oh." A reproachful look from Rose put an end to that possibility, even if for rather different reasons than Marson thought. "Well then, I'll see you-all bright an' early in the morning and we'll hit the road." His eyes twinkled. "Just wait till you see our ride, you're gonna love it." He winked again and left without another word.

"What was that all about?" Rose wondered, but before Argus or anyone else could answer, there was a tap-tap-tapping on the room's window as another parrot arrived from points south.

[OOC: A, over to you for the message. Again, whichever of the options open to Tim you prefer is the one that will be in the message, which won't contain anything else.]
