Regarding the commentary on Star Wars... well, you're not wrong.
There have been some rumors that Disney views the sequel trilogy as, at best polarizing, and at worst a dead end to the franchise. Said rumors continue that steps are being taken to essentially multiverse the problem away. Basically the thought is that Disney will keep putting out interquel material that builds off the original trilogy, and by the time it gets to the point where it should link up with the sequel trilogy... it just won't. And they'll continue on as if the sequel trilogy never happened.
No clue if they're true or not. The rumors seem a bit far fetched, but then... if you'd told me several years ago that Disney was going to make a sequel trilogy without an overall story arc in place that would force them to drag Emperor Palpatine back into things... I wouldn't have believed that either.

Did you accidentally title this as September 9 or is it out of order on the website?
Because badass action girl is as badass action girl does.

I'm not sure how much faith I put into the multiverse rumors, that would be a lot money spent on something that they would be all but opening admitting was a mistake. I don't see various Disney corporate types going along with that. Just dancing around the sequel trilogy indefinitely and then maybe eventually doing a new series based long after it seems to be more likely. Or even far in the past if they plan on pushing forward with that High Republic stuff, no matter how poor the response has been to it so far.minigendo wrote:Regarding the commentary on Star Wars... well, you're not wrong.

I just feel bad for Matt Smith. He has not had much luck with Hollywood. A bit part in an awful Terminator movie, and then gets deleted outright from a Star Wars movie so they can bring the emperor back in a poorly explained way.

They may not do it now, but I can see Disney (or whoever owns the franchise by then...) pulling that 10-15 years from now... I mean, who will care for the Sequel Trilogy 15 years from now? Will there be anybody who will wish to watch the future of aged Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose...etc.?Michael Poe wrote:I'm not sure how much faith I put into the multiverse rumors, that would be a lot money spent on something that they would be all but opening admitting was a mistake. Stark Trek has several continuities, they skipped Superman III from the continuity when they made Superman Return, the Spider-man movies have reseted several times (1977, 2002, 2012...), and I don't even know about the Batman ones...
And most important of all, film directors and producers have shown that they don't give a damn whatever came before them... each one wants to make their own movie the way they want to make, it, screw expectations from anybody, respect to continuity, to the characters or whatever... So try to imagine a rising star director being offered to make a new trilogy in 2030 or 2035... do you think they will care to respect the work of J.J.Abrams and Rian Johnson? The original trilogy, yes, they have to respect that, because otherwise it wouldn't be a Star Wars movie... but, do you really think they will let anything else stand in the way of them making the movie they wish...?
If they want to make the movie about the Empire fighting back right after the destruction of the Second Death Star and winning that war, they will do it. If they want to make the movie about the seven children of Han Solo and Leia Organa being Jedi prodigies, they will do it. If they want to do it about Luke becoming a Sith and conquering the galaxy, they will do it...
My only concern is, Carrie Fisher is dead, Mark Hamill is very old and Harrison Ford is even older and won't make another Star Wars movie even if you put a gun in the back of his head... they have wasted the chance to make a true legacy, to show the old generation passing the baton to the new, unless they use CGI zombie actors to bring them all back (which they may as well do, I suspect most movies will be made that way very soon...); we may have a true, good sequel 10-20 years from now, but none of the old guard will be in it, and that saddens me...

This scares the shit out of me, no joke. Using CGI to produce sequels to movies that came out last century is one thing. I can live with that. The real problem is, how much would it cost in 10-20 years to use CGI to manufacture evidence for criminal trials? How hard would it be for your enemies to obtain a 3D model of you for this purpose? Would juries of randomly selected people be smart enough to understand that it's possible to make a fake surveillance camera video?Devon wrote:unless they use CGI zombie actors to bring them all back (which they may as well do, I suspect most movies will be made that way very soon...)
You could forget about ever cleaning up politics too. Election years would always have the most amazing CGI clips of presidential candidates doing wildly perverted, nasty things.

Unfortunately there already are pornographic deep fakes of various politicians floating around.
And people actually understand the concept of digitally faked video footage quite well already thanks to tv shows and movies using the concept to death long before it was really possible in real life. In fact the problem might be the reverse, where real footage could be casually labeled as fake to discredit it, and the general public really wouldn't know what to believe as they wouldn't have the means tools or know how to discern it's validly.
